Heart of a Lover - scene 1

Act 1

Scene 1
[The set is a castle, Princess Serenity is sleeping in her bed on the top floor, King and Queen Hydros are in the dining room. King Hydros is pacing while Queen Hydros is sitting at the extravagantly large dining table, reading a book. The Maid is rushing up the stairs, she runs to Serenity’s room and raps on the door.]

Maid: [knocks on door sharply] Serenity…Serenity? Princess Serenity!!!

Serenity: [tosses and turns in her queen sized bed with silk coverings] Ugh! I’ll be down in a minute!![she quietly gets up and sits on the edge of her bed, her silk night gown covering her knees.] Ahh... [She turns to see Misaki in her little bed.] Good Morning Misaki!! [She jumps out of bed and pets Misaki on her head] Did you sleep well?

Misaki: [Looks up at Serenity and barks] I slept very well, thank you. [Serenity cannot understand Misaki, so she just smiles and walks to the window.]

Serenity: [Smiling] Wow, the garden looks beautiful today! I wonder if Father has looked at it in a while. [Below as the lines are being said, King Hydros is pacing and every once in awhile, talks to a servant that passes by.]

King Hydros: Damn it! Where is that daughter of mine?! [Pacing]

Queen Hydros: [Trying to calm him] Now, now Myed dear, calm down please.

King Hydros: Sorry Ami, it’s just….we need to talk to her about the marriage…

Queen Hydros: I know dear, she’ll come down, she has to get hungry some time. [Just as the last lines are being said, Serenity comes sliding down the railing, or running down the stairs, in a long dress, but with no shoes.]

|Queen Hydros: Serenity, just in time!
|King Hydros: Finally, Serenity!!

Serenity: Sorry, Mom, Dad. [Kisses each of them on the cheek, she takes a seat next to her mother.] The maid woke me up to early, so I fell back asleep.

Queen Hydros: Well, you’re here now. [Snaps her fingers, a waitress or waiter comes and hands her a plate of food] Here child, eat. [Hands to Serenity]

Serenity: Thanks Mom. [She eats as King Hydos takes a seat on the other side of her]

King Hydros: Well, I bet you’re wondering why I ordered the maid to wake you up early. [He snaps his fingers and another waiter puts food infront of him and the Queen.]

Serenity: Well yeah dad but – [She drops her fork/spoon] wait….you told the maid to wake me up early!?

King Hydros: Yes, [Serenity leans back in her chair and pouts] now I want you to know that we are having some important guests over for dinner tonight and-

Serenity:  [Interrupts] A dinner party!!! Really?! That is so cool, Oh my God, I have to get ready. [She starts to rush up the stairs]

King Hydros: Now hold on a minute! [Serenity pauses at the second step] I still need to tell you some thing.

Serenity: [Walks back to the room] Yes Father? [stares at him with big eyes]

King Hydros: [Hesitates] Ummm….I…was going to tell you that…I bought you should wear your best dress to the dinner!

Serenity: Really! [King Hydros nods his head] Thank you Daddy! [rushes up the stairs and into her room, she starts putting on a very expensive dress, modeling in the mirror.]

Queen Hydros: [Speaks while Serenity changes] Why didn’t you tell her?

King Hydros: [Sighs] I couldn’t under that stare, she’ll be okay when she meets her fiancé tonight.

Queen Hydros: [Stares in the direction of Serenity’s room and sighs] I hope you’re right…. [Curtain closes on the scene.]
